Iota Xi Attends OA/HI

Phi Theta Kappa is the international honor society of the two year college students; Iota Xi is the Union County College chapter. Welcome!

Dear Phi Theta Kappans,

Valentine’s Day Bake Sale is almost here!

It will be happening not only on Thursday and Friday of this week, (February 10th and 11th) but also on Wednesday the 9th.

We missed the sign up sheet for the first day on the orientation meeting so if you could bring anything or donate any of your precious time the Chapter on this Wednesday the 9th, it would be greatly appreciated!

If you already sign up to bring goodies or committed some of your time to the bake sale thank you so much! But if you could fit another hour on the first day would be great!

On Wednesday the bake sale will be happening from 9am to 5pm and we have all the time slots available. If you can fill any of those 8 hours please contact Jared at jspero@ptkiotaxi.org, Maria at mbraga@ptkiotaxi.org, or just leave a comment after this post.

The Stars Reward System is set up and the bake sale is a very flexible and easy way to be involved in the chapter’s activities.

Remember, you get from Phi Theta Kappa what you put into Phi Theta Kappa!

See you guys there,

Maria Braga

PTK hosted its first orientation session this past Thursday, Feb 3rd, where we  welcomed new members to Iota Xi and congratulated  them for their academic excellence. We, officers shared some of our experiences as members and leaders of the chapter and explained the different responsabilities each of us have in our respective positions. Also, by sharing our different perspectives in how the honor society has contributed to us as individuals, we encouraged them to get involved and take advantage of the variaty of opportunities that exclusively members have access to.

If you missed this orientation, you still have the chance to join us in the upcoming one to be hosted on Feb 12 in the Admiral Stanley Room located in the Cranford library at 12:30 pm.

To learn when there are more upcoming events, go to the event calendar tab and click on enlarge for a better view.  There is our Valentines’ bake sale, our book sale and blood drives coming up. Great opportunities to share with people like minded who also care about their future, their community, chapter and school.

Hope to see you all and once again congratulations to those who are completing all the steps towards membership.

Sincerely,

Paola Cruz

Spring semester has just started and Iota Xi is already in action. This past Saturday our board of officers had a meeting that resulted in enthusiastic exchange of ideas, planning and projects that will benefit our school and chapter. Without a doubt, Spring 2011 will be an eventful semester for all Iota Xi members and officers.

Dr. Cynthia Singer, Senior Professor of Business at Union County College, gave us a very helpful and insightful workshop to improve our project management skills. Tips that will last a lifetime were handed to us. We thank her collaboration and look  forward to have her joining us in future events.

We are hosting our first meeting of the semester-

On Thursday, Jan 27th, meet your fellow Phi Theta Kappans in the Admiral Stanley Room at 12:30 PM on the Second floor of the Mackay Library located in the Cranford Campus.

Come, stop by, this is your chapter and your presence matters. This is an opportunity you shouldn’t miss.

Sincerely,

Paola Cruz

VP of Public Relations

The following invitation was received from Ted Lai, the advisor of Beta Alpha Phi:

Tomorrow from 12:00 to 2:00 pm, Beta Alpha Phi will host its Halloween Party for
children in the Student Lounge, 25 Journal Square. The food drive at the party
will benefit a homeless shelter, with which we are working for the Honors in
Action project.

You and your chapter are invited to the party.

If anybody else is interested in attending, please contact Maria Braga so we can make carpool arrangements. I can not express enough how important it is to support our sister chapters! So, for if you are available during that time, make an effort!
