Iota Xi’s Chapter officers and faculty advisor, Dr. Mandana Ahsani attended the Phi Theta Kappa regional officers training in Wilkes Barre PA. During the three day program, we met officers from other chapters in the Middle States Region and learned skills that have helped us improve our performance as leaders.

Also, we are happy to announce that Iota Xi Secretary Maria Braga was chosen as Regional Vice President of Honors for the entire Middle States Region. There was a competitive election during the Officers Academy where three other candidates ran for the position that Miss Braga now holds. We wish her a successful year. We surely know that she is going to give her best as she has done in our chapter.

At this academy, we were encouraged to complete the 5-Star Competitive Edge program. This program helps members “build an online portfolio” that will showcase their accomplishments in one convenient location. Then you can easily share the information with scholarship providers, admissions officials and potential employers.

If you are also interested in networking with students from our campus and around the world. If you want to learn more about competitive edge or a leadership roles, please come to our weekly meetings. You may find opportunities and the answers you are looking for.

Sincerely,

Paola Cruz

Last night Iota Xi had the pleassure and honor of inducting 51 new members into our chapter in a ceremony where intellectual associations and hard work were recognized.

We are proud to say that we had the special presence of our fellow Phi Theta Kappans from Hudson County College. Besides these special guests, we also had the honor to hear the words of wisdom of Union County College distinguished Vice President of Academic Affairs Dr. Wallace Smith and Professor Phillip Martin who is a former president of the Iota Xi Chapter and has an outstanding history of academic excellence.

Professor Karen Schmidt, advisor of the chapter, also welcomed our new members with a magnificent speech, and Chapter President Ms. Diana Gonzalez congratulated them and offered her warm words that showed what Iota Xi has to offer and how content the entire team feels to receive more wonderful students and moreover individuals as part of our team.

We thank Gloria Elizabeth Blanco for organizing the event and serving as master of ceremony, and each one of the officers who put so much energy and enthusiasm to make this possible.

We, officers shared some of our experiences as members and leaders of the chapter and explained the different responsabilities each of us have in our respective positions. Also, by sharing our different perspectives in how the honor society has contributed to us as individuals, we encouraged them to get involved and take advantage of the variaty of opportunities that exclusively members have access to.

If you missed this orientation, you still have the chance to join us in the upcoming one to be hosted on Feb 12 in the Admiral Stanley Room located in the Cranford library at 12:30 pm.

Spring semester has just started and Iota Xi is already in action. This past Saturday our board of officers had a meeting that resulted in enthusiastic exchange of ideas, planning and projects that will benefit our school and chapter. Without a doubt, Spring 2011 will be an eventful semester for all Iota Xi members and officers.

Dr. Cynthia Singer, Senior Professor of Business at Union County College, gave us a very helpful and insightful workshop to improve our project management skills. Tips that will last a lifetime were handed to us. We thank her collaboration and look  forward to have her joining us in future events.

We are hosting our first meeting of the semester-

On Thursday, Jan 27th, meet your fellow Phi Theta Kappans in the Admiral Stanley Room at 12:30 PM on the Second floor of the Mackay Library located in the Cranford Campus.

Come, stop by, this is your chapter and your presence matters. This is an opportunity you shouldn’t miss.

Sincerely,

Paola Cruz
