By: Chapter President Diana Gonzalez.

This Event was conceived by our former VP of scholarship in direct collaboration with our former VP of Public Relations and our former Treasurer over the summer of 2009. Once shared with the rest of the officer team, the project was embraced as one of the components of a chapter effort titled Honors in Art. The mission for this project was to encourage the study of our Honers Study Topic:The Democratization of Information: Power, Peril, and Promise in our student community. By using an artistic medium as a form of interpretation.
The coordination of this project was ed by our former VP of scholarship with the help of our current VP of Public Relations; who brought on board the support of both the Art Society and the Art Department of UCC.
The project also served as a medium to reach out to the college community in the Elizabeth campus, where the actual exhibit took place.
Initially, our former president and former VP of scholarship contacted the provost of the Elizabeth campus Dr. Gaba to reserve a space in the new Kellogg building, with great pleasure, she consented our request and supported our cause making it clear that our presence is always welcome on that campus. Another key element to the setup of the exhibit as the input and collaboration from the facilities department who not only but met all of the logistic needs but went out of their way to guarantee the safety of the art work.
Our current VP of Public Relations Kristy Lopez and our former VP of Scholarship approached the faculty of arts department to request permission to put up posters, do class visits, and distribute applications during their class period.
A link as posted on our chapter website to inform in further detail interested students about the Honors Study topic and the go green cause involved in the art exhibit. Furthermore, arrangements were made with the libraries across all 3 campuses to post flyers and hold the in-boxes were participating students were supposed to drop their registration form.
The registration form developed by our Current VP of public relations and our former VP of scholarships, aimed at enticing artistic insight in the students and to assure that the art work submitted met the necessary criteria.
Prof. Yoskowitz, from the Arts Department, volunteered his office space to store the art pieces a week before the actual exhibit. committees were created to carry on the workload involved in this project such as publicity, logistics, refreshments, and decorations A total of fourteen tentative art pieces participated in this exhibits with the involvement of approximately ten student artists. besides the participation and attendance of the artists, we had two students musicians perform on the opening night. One student Lora, celebrating the honors in the art with the soothing notes of her Violin and the second student Jacqueline C. with pure rhythms of her acoustic guitar and her voice.
The art work remained on display for a week at the Elizabeth Campus with a total of forty registered visitors.
Although adversities were faced along the way by both the faculty and student members involved the out come was very successful. for we got our message of scholarship across. building lasting relationships with members of our college community.
