Seminar for Mentors: “Using the Blog” by David Reyes
The Blog is very easy to use all it takes is some basic navigational knowledge. With the tools provided it is easy to create a post as original as you are. It’s so easy an honors student can do it.
To get register a new member they must got to the bottom right of the screen under META and click register. Right now were are asking that Phi Theta Kappa Members sign up using their CWID’s so that we can ensure they are students here.Don’t worry they can change it once Joe has confirmed them.
From there WordPress makes it easy to post as there are numerous buttons which lead to posting.
TIPS
Use Catchy Titles that explain what the topic is. Look at Me may be catchy but it doesn’t tell me what it is about so I won’t read it. At the same time, Technical Explanation for Using Word Press and Blogging with Phi Theta Kappa. Explains a lot but could be trunkated better to make it more attractive. In short title it like you would an email or a paper.

PASSWORDS
When a website gives you a password Change It Fast! you don’t want a hacker to get in there and have access to it if the computer knows it a hacker can too.
To make a good password follow these rules.
1 Make it something you can remember. (If you can’t remember it you can’t access it)
2 Have multiple passwords. (The last thing you want is to have a hacker find out the password they stole is the key to the whole castle) Also keep a list of all your passwords in an envelope in your desk. (If, God forbid, something should happen to you you will want your family to beable to access our bank accounts and personal information if things go bad.)
4 Don’t make it something that can be connected to you. ( Pet names, Birthdays, Girl/Boyfriends. and Relatives are all things that can be easily figured out my a human hacker)
5 Every password should have at least 2 Capital Letters, 2 Lower Case Letters, 2 Numbers and 2 Symbols. thats 26X26X10X33 or 223,080 possible choices for 1 character. this can foil a bot (electronic robot that will literally enter aaaaaaaaa, aaaaaab aaaaaac etc until it has found your password.)
6 If you must have a key password. Add a site specific tail to the password for nonescential sites
So folloing these rules. the Myspace password widget becomes w!dg3+MS (MS for myspace)
