Our Halloween Bake Sale has been going so well.

We made at least 90 dollars so far after expenses. One thing I’ve noticed – people love homemade brownies. In minutes we had sold out of them. I made two runs to the store to replenish the cookies and cupcakes, which also sold steadily.

The weather’s cold and people want baked goods! Thanks for your help guys. This is turning out to be a record-breaking fund raising semester. We couldn’t do it without working as a team.

We inducted 50 new member, our largest induction by to date. The Commons looked smashing with great thanks to those members who helped out. Big thanks to our Vice President of Fellowship, Megan Andrade, who organized this spectacular event. We had a great turnout and were able to fill out all the time slots by the third day. he New Jersey Blood Services wrote a letter of deep appreciation for our hard work. Our school donated over 75 pints of blood and saved over 900 lives! Donors also received a free T-shirt with their donation. Book Sale The book sale is a major fundraiser for Iota Xi and we definitely proved that to be right. Many members, new and old, volunteered their time to making this a success and we want to say thank you. We appreciate all the time and dedication everyone put into the Book Sale because we were able to raise $1,361! Way-to-go! Professor Lind, who recently retired as the Head of the Chemistry Department, showed his kindness by donating over 5 boxes of chemistry books. “The Feed the Mind soccer tournament was a succes with over 100 players and soccer fans in attedence and over twenty matches played!” A Fun Time Helping Others The “Feed the Mind” soccer tournament turned out to be a great event. As you all know this idea was brought originally by Ana Maria Lopez-Iota Xi VP of Service- and had the approval and support of our great chapter, Iota Xi. When she first proposed this idea it seemed as if it was going to involve lots of work, and it did. With so many things in the “to do” list time appeared to be flying to the day of the tournament, before she could have everything ready. She had to have teams signed up, certified refferees, goals, fields, permits, BBQ supplies, people ready to help, etc. Nevertheless, when the time came everything was ready and the tournament was a success with about 100 people attending, including players and soccer fans, over about 20 matches played, and a bunch of burgers and hot dogs sold. Ana was glad to count with the help of many people who offered to help her out in this quest. Phi Theta Kappa Iota Xi, were of course the most important ones, but some people outside the chapter were extremely useful as well and did it out of solidarity with PTK’s cause. Nick Sotomayor and Bruce Victoria were the most outstanding volunteers and Ana Maria as well as PTK thank them for their support. Honors Luncheon n Honors Luncheon was held on October 18th, following the Induction Ceremony , to welcome new members and address the honors topic “The Paradox of affluence”. Members brought delectable home-made dishes that included appetizers, main courses, and desserts. Yum! To show their support, 3 members of the Phi Theta Kappa from Hudson Community College, including their chapter’s President, attended our event. Professor Chewning an English Professor at UCC, gave a presentation on our Honors topic “The Paradox of affluence”. She addressed the topic of happiness. “What is happiness, how do find happiness, and what de- A fines it?” These thought provoking questions engaged us all and lead us into a discussion. Thanks to all of our new members, Professor Chewning, and Officers; including Megan who organized the event; and turned it into a successful event. Check out the chapter blog and view photos from past events. Read the newsletter, volunteer for the bake sale, and interact with your fellow Iota Xi memebers…. http://PTKIotaXi.MyUCCedu.com

Union County College 75th Anniversary Gala from Joseph Eulo on Vimeo.

I had a great time at the Gala last Saturday night. It was a sight to see, the commons all jazzed up and Faculty, Staff, and Students dressed to the gills. I enjoyed walking around and snapping pictures, meeting new people, volunteering and giving back to the college. Sheila and Diana did a great job working the coat check, they had it down to a science. Megan, Maria, Chris and I worked the auction carrying the various items up for bid around the theater for all to see. Megan and Chris also worked the front door greeting the attendees as they entered and Maria show them to their tables. I filled in where ever I was needed, snapping pictures along the way capturing moments to show you all. Above is a video that I put together with a Duke Ellington tune, that seems to me to capture the moment.
